An Atlas Air Boeing 747-400, registration N498MC performing flight 5Y-8447 from Winnipeg,MB (Canada) to Seoul (South Korea), was enroute at FL320 about 270nm west of Winnipeg when the crew was informed by ATC of a potential hydraulic leak at the left side of the aircraft. The crew requested services to verify it was indeed hydraulic fluid. About 20 minutes later the crew observed the #1 hydraulic system hydraulic quantity to decrease. ATC confirmed it was hydraulic fluid on taxiways and runway. The crew consulted with dispatch and maintenance and decided to return to Winnipeg where the aircraft landed without further incident about 100 minutes after departure.
The TSB reported maintenance found two hydraulic lines loose at the #1 hydraulic shut-off wing valve. The lines were retorqued, the system was services and tested.
The aircraft departed again for the flight about 17 hours after landing.
