A Carpatair Airbus A319-100 on behalf of Air Baltic, registration YR-ABB performing flight BT-612 from Athens (Greece) to Riga (Latvia), was climbing out of Athens' runway 03R when the crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet reporting smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft returned to Athens for a safe landing on runway 03R about 20 minutes after departure. The aircraft taxied to the apron with emergency services in trail.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Athens about 11 hours after landing.
