The aircraft landed safely on Nashville's runway 20L about 25 minutes later.
A passenger reported there were strange noises, then the captain announced one of the engines (PW1133G) had rolled back. Other passengers reported seeing flames from an engine.
A replacement A321-200N registration N629FR reached Punta Cana with a delay of about 10 hours.
