A Jazz Canadair CRJ-900 on behalf of Air Canada, registration C-GJAZ performinig flight AC-8839 from Raleigh/Durham,NC (USA) to Toronto,ON (Canada), was enroute at FL290 about 80nm southsouthwest of Washington,DC (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Washington reporting their elevators were split. The aircraft landed safely on Washington's runway 19C about 40 minutes later.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Washington for about 4 hours, then returned to service.
