A Jet2.com Boeing 737-800, registration G-DRTD performing flight LS-219 from Leeds,EN (UK) to Arrecife,CI (Spain), was climbing out of Leeds' runway 32 when the crew stopped the climb at FL090 after the aircraft had been struck by lightning. The crew decided to divert to Manchester for a safe landing on runway 23L about 50 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A321-200 registration G-HLYA reached Arrecife with a delay of about 3.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Manchester about 26 hours after landing.
