A Malaysia Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration 9M-MTI performing flight MH-71 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), was cleared for immediate takeoff from runway 34L, when the crew began to accelerate for takeoff but interrupted their takeoff run at about 30 knots over ground after the aircraft began drifting to the left of the runway, the crew regained directional control at about 8 knots over ground and continued the takeoff run taking off without further difficulties, the controller already queried whether they were taking off. The aircraft landed safely in Kuala Lumpur about 7.5 hours later.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Kuala Lumpur for about 9.5 hours before returning to service.
