A Malta Air Boeing 737-8 MAX on behalf of Ryanair, registration 9H-VUT performing flight FR-5667 from Edinburgh,SC (UK) to Faro (Portugal), was on approach to Faro when the crew stopped the descent at 5000 feet and entered a hold to troubleshoot a flaps problem. The crew subsequently decided to divert to Seville,SP (Spain), climbed to FL200 and entered a hold at Seville before landing on Seville's runway 27 at a higher speed than normal (about 190 knots over ground) about 85 minutes after aborting the approach to Faro.
The airline reported alternate transport was organised to Faro for the passengers after a minor technical issue prompted the diversion to Seville for a normal landing.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Seville about 32.5 hours after landing.
