A Malta Air Boeing 737-800 on behalf of Ryanair, registration 9H-QDD performing flight FR-6789 from Trieste (Italy) to Paris Beauvais (France), was climbing out of Trieste's runway 27 when the crew stopped the climb at about FL235 due to an engine failure and decided to divert to Venice (Italy). The aircraft entered a hold and landed safely on Venice's runway 04R about 50 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers rebooked onto other flights.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Venice about 37 hours after landing.
