A United Boeing 757-200, registration N34131 performing flight UA-1403 from Los Angeles,CA to Newark,NJ (USA) with 176 passengers and 7 crew, was climbing through FL320 out of Los Angeles when the crew stopped the climb and initiated a descent and diversion towards Las Vegas,NV (USA) due to problems with the left hand engine (RB211). The aircraft landed safely on Las Vegas' runway 26R about 25 minutes later, vacated the runway and stopped to have emergency services inspect the left hand engine and the brakes.
A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration N13113 continued the flight but diverted to Cleveland,OH (USA). The remainder of the flight was cancelled.
The FAA reported: "United Airlines Flight 1403 landed safely at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas around 7 a.m. local time on Thursday, Aug. 27, after the crew reported an engine issue. The Boeing 757-200 departed from Los Angeles International Airport and was traveling to Newark Liberty International Airport. The FAA will investigate."
