A LATAM Chile Boeing 787-8, registration CC-BBE performing flight LA-801 from Santiago (Chile) to Auckland (New Zealand), was climbing through FL170 out of Santiago when the crew stopped the climb and descended to 10,000 feet. The aircraft dumped fuel and returned to Santiago for a safe landing on runway 35R about 2:10 hours after departure.

A replacement Boeing 787-9 registration CC-BGA reached Auckland with a delay of about 6.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Santiago about 46 hours after landing back.
