A British Airways Boeing 777-200, registration G-YMME performing flight BA-2203 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Cancun (Mexico) with 340 people on board, was climbing out of runway 26L when the crew stopped the climb at FL110 reporting fumes on board. The aircraft entered a hold to dump fuel and returned to London Gatwick for a safe landing on runway 26L about 55 minutes after departure.
Passengers reported there was a smell of old socks making them feel dizzy, the crew even opened the cockpit side windows for fresh air.
The airline reported the flight returned due to a technical issue.
A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration G-YMMF reached Cancun with a delay of about 24 hours.
The occurrence aircraft returned to service on Jul 17th 2025.
