A Wamos Airbus A330-300 on behalf of Avianca, registration EC-ODR performing flight AV-217 from Bogota (Colombia) to Buenos Aires Ezeiza,BA (Argentina), was cleared for takeoff from Bogota's runway 14R by a young visitor. The aircraft departed without incident and continued for a safe landing in Buenos Aires.
A father, ATC for a different airport, and his son were visiting the control tower during off-peak time. The 18 year old son was permitted to be in the control room for about 50 minutes and actually communicated with a number of, possibly 20 flights. According to his father this was "hand on" training to support his son's selection process to become an ATC. A video posted on social media posted by the son brought this to light prompting Colombian Autorities to suspend the licenses of two controllers who allowed personnel outside the entity to perform ATC functions creating a serious operational safety risk. The prosecution office also got involved.
