An Etihad Airways Airbus A321-200N, registration A6-LRA performing flight EK-222 from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to Kolkata (India), was enroute at FL330 nearing the top of descent towards Kolkata when the crew initiated an emergency descent to FL100 due to the loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft landed safely on runway 01R about 30 minutes after leaving FL330.
The return flight was cancelled.
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 20 hours, then returned to Abu Dhabi climbing to FL360, remained on the ground in Abu Dhabi for another 13 hours and returned to service.
