A Smartwings Boeing 737-800 on behalf of Eurowings, registration OK-TSF performing flight EW-634 from Cologne (Germany) to Rhodes (Greece), had been enroute at FL390 nearing Rhodes and had just began their initial descent towards Rhodes when the crew received a cabin altitude warning, donned their oxygen masks and performed the memory items. The cabin altitude stabilized at 10,000 feet, the cabin altitude change indicator varied between 0 and +500 feet/min, the bleed valve was in the fully closed position. The crew accelerated the descent but without declaring emergency as both pilots considered the cabin altitude to be stable. Below FL180 the cabin altitude warning extinguished and the aircraft continued for a safe landing in Rhodes.
Czechia's UZPLN reported that maintenance incorrectly confirmed the minimum equipment list of the previous day, see Incident: Smartwings B738 near Athens on Aug 12th 2025, loss of cabin pressure and returned the aircraft back to service.
The aircraft performed the return flight with a delay of about one hour.
Czechia's UZPLN reported that the crew performed the return flight without questioning the MEL. Maintenance in Cologne found that the warnings could have been caused by the air hoses. The air hoses were replaced and the aircraft was released back to service. The operator took measures in the form of more preventive visual inspections of the pressurization air hoses from the engines.
