A PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-700 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N517AE performing flight AA-5561 from Washington National,DC to Birmingham,AL (USA), was departing Washington National's runway 15 when the aircraft struck from foreign object on the runway. The aircraft stopped the climb at 4000 feet and diverted to Washington Dulles,DC (USA) for a safe landing on runway 19C about 16 minutes after departure.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT STRUCK AN OBJECT ON TAKEOFF FROM DCA AND DIVERTED TO IAD AND POST FLIGHT INSPECTION REVEALED A HOLE IN THE RADOME, CHANTILLY, VA."

The aircraft is still on the ground in Washington about 14 hours after landing.
