An American Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N669AW performing flight AA-1657 from Charlotte,NC to San Antonio,TX (USA), was on final approach to San Antonio's runway 04 when a San Antonio police helicopter flew through the approach path. The A320 continued the approach and landed without further incident.

The FAA reported: "On Friday, Feb. 27, American Airlines Flight 1657 was cleared to land at San Antonio International Airport in Texas when a police helicopter was flying through the airport’s final approach path. The helicopter and aircraft were on converging courses when the helicopter made a left-hand turn to avoid the American Airlines flight."

On Mar 18th 2026 the FAA moved to release GENOT 7110.801 effectively banning visual separation between helicopters crossing the flight path of arriving or departing aircraft within Class B, Class C and TRSA airspace. The instruction remains effective until Dec 24th 2026 and was triggered by the midair collision over the Potomac last year, see Crash: PSA CRJ7 at Washington on Jan 29th 2025, midair collision with helicopter on final and several similiar occurrences.
