A Porter Airlines Embraer ERJ-195-E2, registration C-GZQM performing flight PD-402 from Edmonton,AB to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 94 people on board, departed Edmonton's runway 12. After departure a passenger advised cabin crew they might have seen a tyre depart the aircraft after rotation. The aircraft continued to Toronto, on approach to Toronto the flight crew requested tower to confirm the landing gear condition, tower reported the outboard left main tyre was missing. The flight crew went around, declared PAN PAN and later Mayday and entered a hold to burn off fuel. The aircraft landed safely on runway 15L and stopped on the runway. Passengers disembarked via stairs.
The Canadian TSB wrote: "Maintenance personnel inspected the aircraft and found damage to the left main landing gear axle. Most of the missing components were later recovered at CYEG. The aircraft and landing gear manufacturers are continuing to investigate with the operator the cause of the axle damage."
The aircraft returned to service on Mar 9th 2026.
