A Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration HZ-AK17 performing flight SV-701 from Karachi (Pakistan) to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), was enroute at FL380 near Karachi when the crew received an engine (GE90) fire warning and initiated the related procedures. The aircraft returned to Karachi for a safe landing on runway 25L about 70 minutes after departure.

Pakistan Airport Authority reported initial inspections did not find any fault with the engine. The flight was cancelled.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Karachi about 14 hours after landing.
