A Skyup Europe Airbus A321-200N, registration 9H-PEB performing flight U5-7349 from Rzeszow (Poland) to Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt), was climbing through FL260 out of Rzeszow's runway 27 when the crew stopped the climb after receiving a hail strike damaging nose cone and the captain's windshield. The crew decided to divert to Katowice (Poland) where the aircraft landed on runway 26 without further incident about 40 minutes after departure.
A replacement Fly2Sky Airbus A321-200 registration LZ-MDL continued the flight and reached Sharm el Sheikh with a delay of about 13.5 hours.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Katowice about 10 days after landing.
On Jul 17th 2025 Poland's PKBWL reported: "During takeoff climbout while attempting to avoid a storm front, the aircraft entered a hailstorm. The flight crew informed ATC of a weather radar failure, aborted the flight, and requested landing vectors to the en-route airport, where the aircraft landed safely. After landing, significant damage to the aircraft was detected.", rated the occurrence an accident and opened an investigation.
