A Sundair Airbus A319-100, registration 9A-BER performing flight SR-2888 from Bremen (Germany) to Palma Mallorca,SP (Spain) with 146 people on board, was climbing out of Bremen's runway 27 when the crew declared emergency reporting smoke in the cabin. The aircraft stopped the climb at 3000 feet and returned to Bremen for a safe landing on runway 27 about 13 minutes after departure.
A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration D-ANNA reached Palma Mallorca with a delay of about 6:15 hours.
The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 24 hours after landing.
The following day the airline reported one of the engines (CFM56) had been washed the day before flight and there was still residual dampness causing vapours to enter the aircraft prompting the crew to return to Bremen.
