A UPS United Parcel Service Boeing 747-8 freighter, registration N627UP performing flight 5X-223 from Louisville,KY (USA) to Cologne (Germany), was enroute at FL350 about 70nm southeast of Columbus,OH (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Columbus Rickenbacker Airport reporting they had fumes and smoke in the cockpit, there was some haziness. The aircraft landed safely on Rickenbacker's runway 23R about 20 minutes later. The aircraft vacated the runway and stopped for an inspection by emergency services, about 20 minutes later the aircraft taxied to the apron.
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 19 hours, then positioned back to Louisville and resumed service.
